Its Member Monday! On Monday we try and highlight one of our Sports Chaplains on the Sports Chaplains Community... This week's Chaplain is Jon Wehner. Jon is a chaplain at Joe Gibbs Racing. Quick Background on Jon He moved from Eastpointe, MI in 1992 to pursue a career in racing. After experiencing success in the racing industry, God called him to pastor an outreach for the racing community called Monday Night Church. With the ministry fully established, Jon joined the Cede team in 2011 as Director of Operations. Jon and his wife Christie have five kids and reside in the Charlotte, NC area. Why did you join this community? I am fortunate enough to work with a team of chaplains and recognize that most chaplains don’t have the luxury. I understand the importance of community and wanted to be involved. It’s also great for me to be able to interact with others around the world who can share their experiences in chaplaincy. Why did you become a chaplain? I was involved in NASCAR as race team employee for 17 years. I left the racing industry and worked at a church for 5 years. I was then offered the opportunity to work as a chaplain at a NASCAR team and took on a full time position that includes both ministry and racing. Best advice you would give another chaplain? God has uniquely gifted every one of us. Take all that He has given you to invest in others. One way we can pray for you… That the passion I have to share the good news of Christ would be embraced by those who I have the privilege of serving.
