1 Corinthians 9:24-25 (NLT) says: Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. At the time of Paul's missionary journeys, the city of Corinth hosted the biennial Isthmian Games, second only to the Olympic Games in popularity. The Isthmian Games were an ancient festival of athletic and musical competitions held in honor of the Greek god Poseidon. In his letter to the church at Corinth, Paul borrowed the imagery of the Isthmian Games to teach his spiritual truth. The faithful man runs with purpose in every step. Intentional in action and consistent in attitude. He keeps his eyes on the eternal prize. As a chaplain, remind athletes of the eternal perspective that they pursue something far greater than a trophy–faith, character and the gospel. #encouragement #scripture #sports #chaplaincy
