If you could go back in time, what would you tell yourself and how would you encourage your younger self when you were first beginning in sports ministry? The picture below is a business card for when I first started in sports ministry. We had just gone from pickup basketball and Volleyball to starting our first leagues. I thought it be a good idea to have a business card to invite people who I got connected to. We quickly came up with a name, an email and a card template. This was 5 years before the ministry became P4E. We were struggling to get 8 committed teams and the volleyball was actually more popular than the b-ball. What I would tell myself is : 1. It’s not about you. You need to make sure the people that God puts before you are the focus and sharing his love to them is first and foremost. (A big a part of the ministry was Me playing to be honest). 2. Don’t try to force things. I had thought it be a really cool idea to have a league where we could get 8 different churches to compete against each other and increase fellowship and collaborations. I learned quickly that was not Gods plan. 3. Keep grinding as God has a plan and just keep the main thing the main thing and God will provide and grow the ministry . Do as much as you can with what you have at that very moment and enjoy it. 4. Multiply yourself!!! Look for opportunities and people that you can pour into that can help rub the ministry and continue it after you’re gone. 5. It’s ok to make mistakes. These are inevitable, just learn from them and grow. 6. Enjoy the journey. Because 14 years later God will have you still in ministry doing things you couldn’t have imagined. These are just some of the many things I would tell my younger self. What about you?
