Are you a “Chaplain Bully”? There is a guy who I minister to who calls me the “chaplain bully.” That is not a good name! He says it jokingly and as a way for us to connect. However, it does make me think, “how am I received by those I am caring for spiritually?” So am I a "chaplain bully"? Are you a discipleship bully? Of course not, you are a sports chaplain who is called to serve, build relationships, evangelize and disciple. You have the great privilege of loving people is sport and sharing the Gospel of Grace. However, I have been in discipleship relationships growing up where spiritual pride, manipulation, and a lack of grace impacted spiritual growth. The following article was a good litmus test for me to reflect on my discipleship and if spiritual pride was impacting my discipleship of others. I would encourage you to prayerfully and humbly read through this article with 8 signs of being a discipleship bully. Comment below on which sign was most convicting to you as you prayerfully reflected. Thanks! “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!” (Psalm 139:23–24) https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/article/8-signs-you-are-a-discipleship-bully/
